We were delighted to welcome Amelia from Quickline to our office recently, where she presented us with a generous donation of tablets to support our work.
The donation will make a real difference to our Digital Inclusion project, helping people with sight loss build confidence with technology, develop digital skills and stay connected with family, friends and their local community.

Through our Digital Inclusion project, we offer one-to-one support, group workshops and drop-in sessions at local libraries, GP surgeries and our office. The new tablets will be used throughout these sessions, allowing members to learn everything from the basics of switching on a device and connecting to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, to making the most of accessibility features such as screen readers, magnification and voice controls.
As members gain confidence, they will also be able to explore a range of useful apps and online services that can make everyday life easier. This includes using the NHS App to manage appointments and prescriptions, accessing North Yorkshire Council services to report repairs, pay rent and contact council departments and discovering other digital tools that help people stay informed, connected and independent.
We will also be using the devices to connect to a Brailliant machine (digital Braille) when teaching basic braille.
Technology is an essential part of everyday life and for people with a visual impairment it can be life changing. These tablets will help our members build digital skills, access vital information and services, maintain their independence and stay connected to their community.
